Solutions & RECOMMENDATIONSThe solutions to end childhood obesity is quite simple. It requires two major components that should be in your everyday lifestyle. The first component is nutrition. If you are willing to change the way you eat on a daily basis your body will react to it and want to lose the weight. Children who are overweight or obese eat anything they lay their eyes on with the permission of the parents because they allow them to eat fast food. Places like Mcdonalds, Burger King, In N Out and Taco Bell are some of the major fast food restaurants that kids enjoy eating at. With nutrition being a solution, it is also important that their daily calorie intake is at a reasonable number in order to stay healthy and reduce the fat gain that comes along with eating excessive amount of calories.
The second important component to eliminate obesity for children, is Exercise/Physical activity. Exercise is very important for obese or overweight children because it allows them to live a healthier and more enjoyable life. Children should be required to do some type of physical activity on a daily basis because it allows them to reduce the chances of being overweight. it also gives them the opportunity to be in shape and give them a strong figure for when they grow into young adults. Some exercises children can do is bicycling, running, swimming or even skating. These are simple options for children to stay active in their everyday lives. Of course if they are old enough to lift weights then that is also a great way to stay fit. In my opinion, playing sports is the best way to stay in shape. There are plenty of ways to stay physically active to help the body burn calories and reduce the chances of being obese. |
Limitations |
Some of the limitations that limit children to stay in shape and stay healthy is the time they spend on video games and television. This is a major issue because most kids these days are addicted to the television or video games and it limits them from playing outside like kids used to do. It is very important that parents put their kids in a sport or some type of activity to help them stay in shape. Kids who are in a sport are in shape and live a healthy lifestyle and comparing them to a kid who stays inside their home 6 days out of the week are overweight and lazy. There is no secret to being healthy. It is simple but it does take some discipline from the parent and from the child.
Another limitation that can be a factor is the time management for the parents to help their child eat healthy, or sign them up for a sport. It can be a problem that most parents face and they rather not spend that extra time to help their child live a healthier life but it is a commitment that should be made to help their child live a healthy life. There has been some data that has been shown that working moms who spend a lot of time at work after their child's birth increases the BMI of the child. The results were very shocking on how much the child's BMI rises. For example, in the third grade, the excess weight amounted to just one pound. So yes, working parents has an effect on young children's lives. |
