ProblemsChildhood obesity is a major problem in America and even around the world. It is a major problem when there are children as young as 2 years old are overweight or obese. Now, the child or in this case the baby, has no control of how many calories they are consuming. So who is there to blame? The parents. Parents have full control of what their baby or child is consuming each day and the amount of exercise they are performing on a daily basis.
Also, the rate of obesity with children are increasing and only getting worse. Why is that? Many children are too busy staying inside the house and are not socially active. They are stuck in front of a television for more than half of the day and are addicted to video games that are taking over these young children's lives. |
Major Issues |
Childhood obesity is causing them to have health issues. Some of these health issues include: Heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, Asthma, Sleep Apnea and Social Descrimination. These are major issues because these symptoms at such a young age is very unhealthy and dangerous. Not only are they already overweight or obese but, these health factors can also result in no change in weight and will only get worse going into adulthood.
Young children are being diagnosed with a cardiovascular disease also known as (CVD). Also, they can be diagnosed with high cholesterol and low glucose levels. The chances of children staying obese into adulthood is a percentage of 25. Another issues includes the social discrimination that these children face. Most children who are obese or overweight suffer from low self-esteem and depression. This is an issue because having low self-esteem can result in poor performance in schools. Studies have shown that living a healthy lifestyle and exercising on a daily basis results in better results in school. So being obese reflects on all aspects in your life and not only your body. Having a unsatisfying image can make your life miserable, if you allow it too. |
Narrow Focus |
The narrow focus is to make changes in childhood obesity. The way we can make changes in these children's lives is by controlling what they eat. It is mostly the responsibility of the parents to make sure they are providing the proper nutrition for their children. It will allow these children to live a healthier lifestyle and prevent them from being diagnosed with health issues that can be a definite harm to their life. A great way to help them eat healthy is to buy foods that will only benefit the child and the family. It all starts with the foods that are in the cabinets. It will be very difficult to get use to the healthy eating habits at first but will eventually turn into a habit. Children from the ages 2-14 should at least have 3 healthy meals a day. This will help them stay energized and happy throughout their day.
This is not the only focus that we are trying to help obesity children with. Exercise is just as important as the proper nutrition. Like I mentioned before, exercise is just as important as nutrition if not, more important. It all starts with a simple walk around the neighborhood or jog. Either is fine, as long as you are moving. The problem with today's generation is that they are too busy trying to become a professional gamer and are locked in their room for half of the day. Again, it all starts with the parenting and how they set the rules for the children in their home. Children are very easily influenced by their parents and create the same habits that they have. |
